Lola’s View

From my window I see people
Looking to the ground
Counting steps on their way home

Their shoes make different sounds
And they try to keep their concentration
They say the numbers loud
I’d walk backwards to where I started
If there was any doubt

But it’s hard to concentrate
When pavements all you see
I got to rewind
My memory

In some windows you see people
Looking to the floor
Lost in thoughts of how it would be
If there was a door

We’d not walk out
Of our houses
I guess we’d just fall
But we’d have special parachutes
From the shopping mall

When our room’s upstairs
We’d fly through our neighbour’s room
Maybe
Every afternoon
